Other People's Pictures

I do make it to the first set of spreaders and eventually jump off, don't worry too much. I took about 10 minutes longer to do it than Sarah did. The other pictures of me climbing this thing are not nearly as flattering.

Sarah poised for her triple lindy off the first spreaders on Wings, the boat our new friends Fred and Judy have been sailing around the world for 10 years.

This is the marina we spent a week at in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia.

This is the resort part of the marina. The little speed boat in the foreground goes 45 miles per hour. Our boat's maximum speed is 7 mph. Whoa!

There's the boat we sail on, the Willow, chillin' at the marina.

This is a Chinese temple in Kudat. I get a kick out of this stop sign. "Berhenti!" Sarah noticed that we haven't seen any other funny stop signs which prompts the question, "are there no stop signs in China? The Philippines?..." Malaysia has seemed more first world to us than most of our other stops. Perhaps stop signs are more of a status symbol than I'd realized.

Sailing Vessel Willow and the Cliffs of Palawan

Toto paddled up to our boat one day and helped negotiate the sale of the biggest prawns we have ever seen from a buddy of his that rowed by. About 6 prawns weighing 2.21 pounds. Though he enjoyed the songs we played for him, he didn't want a copy of our Hotel California sheet music because he only plays Christian songs. He played some songs for us. Since his English was "short," in his words, he sang in Tagalog primarily (the Chinese also like to say things are "tall" when they're good). The English songs he knew were love songs. Judging from the songs he did manage to sing in English, I'm thinking that Hotel California must have a reputation that precedes it in the Philippines. Anyway, he was a lot of fun and very nice. Bruce took this picture of him and printed him a copy. He invited us to his house for breakfast but somehow Bruce parlayed this into an invitation to his house on Christmas in nine months since we were on our way out of town. We're all invited actually. Start saving your money!

This is King Kong with Willow in the background. We had a sweet jam session with our new French friends from King Kong.

...said sweet session

Isn't she angelic?

This weird fish thing scampered around the rocks underwater in Barracuda lake.

Here he is scampering.

This is Barracuda Lake.

This is just a pretty picture of a rock that we were trying to sail around when our boat started sailing backwards one day. It is apparently rare that one can keep control of a boat when it is going backwards. We're still waiting for Bruce to properly coin a term for this new maneuver, for which he is now world renowned.

During our underground canoeing trip, (man, was that cool) we passed a stalagmite that looked exactly like the Virgin Mary. These pictures are mostly for Nate Larson.

Can you believe this, Nate? Sweet Mary!
